Cabell Huntington Hospital
HUNTINGTON - A Huntington hospital is being sued for malpractice after failing to provide proper care for a young girl, her parents claim.

Carolyn and Michael Lambert filed a suit Nov. 30 in Cabell Circuit Court on behalf of their daughter, Heather Lambert. The suit is against Cabell Huntington Hospital.

According to the suit, Heather Lambert was a patient at Cabell Huntington on Oct. 21, 2005. The suit says that during her stay, hospital employees allegedly deviated from the applicable standard of care and were negligent in regard to her care.

According to the suit, the hospital failed to properly treat Lambert; failed to provide safe and proper venous access; failed to properly arrange intravenous fluids, including but not limited to blood products and TPN; failed to timely assess and monitor the peripheral intravenous sites; failed to properly insert the peripheral intravenous canula into the right lower extremity; failed to recognize the venous access, which was attempted in the right lower extremity, was too small of a gauge and not appropriate for large amount of fluid administration, blood administration or TPN administration; and failed to provide properly treatment and instruction to prevent ulcers.

Due to the negligence, Heather Lambert suffered pain of the body and mind, disfigurement, humiliation and embarrassment.

Carolyn and Michael Lambert claim they have suffered and will continue to suffer medical, rehabilitative and therapeutic expenses in providing proper care for their daughter.

They demand compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney Julie N. Garvin is representing the Lamberts. The case has been assigned to Judge John L. Cummings.

Cabell Circuit Court case number 07-C-1053
