CHARLESTON - A Raleigh County man has filed a suit against a mine company after he was injured while operating a supply motor.

William T. Stratton filed the suit April 16 in Kanawha Circuit Court, against Selah Corporation.

According to the suit, Stratton worked for Belo Mine Services on April 21, 2006. The company contracts labor to various coal mines, including Selah Corporation, Mine No. 1 in Kanawha County.

Stratton claims he was operating a supply motor which had a scoop seat, instead of a seat made for the motor, while working at Mine No. 1. According to the suit, the seat was not bolted down. Stratton claims that when he stopped and let off the brakes, the seat gave way, causing him to be thrust into the engine with great force, twisting his left leg.

According to the suit, Stratton suffered a torn meniscus and injuries to other parts of his body.

Due to his injuries, Stratton seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney Richard E. Hardison is representing Stratton. The case has been assigned to Judge Charles King.
