Lowe's sued after woman injures herself at store
8/7/2008 2:00 PM By Cara Bailey  -Kanawha Bureau

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman has filed a suit against a national home improvement store after she was injured when walking into the store.

Sue Mills filed the suit June 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Lowe's Home Centers Inc.

According to the suit, Mills and her husband were entering the Lowe's at Nitro Market Place in Cross Lanes.

Mills claims that before she reached the front door, her foot got tangled in a foreign substance and she fell to the ground, injuring her head, ankle, knee, wrist and other areas of her body.

According to the suit, Mills has suffered severe physical and mental injuries, pain of the body and mind, mental anguish, emotional distress, anxiety, suffering, annoyance, inconvenience, transportation cost and other miscellaneous expenses.

Mills claims Lowe's was negligent by failing to monitor the outside front main entrance area of their store when they knew, or should have known, that the area would be more likely to have excessive debris, causing dangerous walking conditions.

Mills seeks unspecified damages.

Attorney Michelle L. Johnson is representing Mills. The case has been assigned to Judge Paul Zakaib.

  • slip and fall on sand in Lowe's

I have also had a slip and fall in a Lowe's store in Louisville, Ky., and am having a hard time with getting into seeing a doctor as Lowe's is self insured and will only pay me back for any damages and medical bills. I broke my arm and have been in a cast for 4 weeks, still have 8 weeks to go, and I need to see a orthopedic sergent as I tore a ligiment in my knee. The bad thing is that I am getting married in 10 weeks and I need to get this taken care of. Have you had much luck? Lowe's has not even sent me any paperwork at all.. I guess so they do not have to take responsibility. I was right by a camera and was witnessed by 2 employees and still nothing. They say it was not recorded on video.. Crazy.. I hope you are doing ok. Please contact me if you need anything or know if you can help me! Jessica Jasonjess40258@aol.com
