CHARLESTON - At least one state coal industry leader said he was shocked by comments Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made earlier this year concerning his plan to aggressively charge polluters for carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.

"What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there," Obama said in a Jan. 17 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that was made public today on the Web site newsbusters.org, which calls itself "the leader in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media bias." The story later was linked on The Drudge Report.

An audio excerpt from the interview can be found at YouTube.

"I was the first to call for a 100 percent auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter," Obama continued. "That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Calls and e-mails to West Virginia Obama campaign officials seeking a response for this story were not returned. But according to ABC News, an Obama spokesperson said the comments were taken out of context.

"The line they pulled out is in the context of cap and trade program," the spokesperson said. "The point Obama is making is that we need to transition from coal burning power plants built with old technology to plants built with advanced technologies -- and that is exactly the action that will be incentivized under a cap and trade program."

A spokeswoman for the Obama campaign in West Virginia replied to The Record's requests for comment with a quote from Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland about McCain's energy plan.

"After John McCain said he'd like to 'transition away from coal entirely,' his campaign is hardly in a position to criticize a coal state Senator like Barack Obama who has outlined a $150 billion investment in clean coal and other technologies to create jobs and build a new energy economy," Strickland said. "The truth is, John McCain and Sarah Palin can't name a single thing they'd do differently on the economy than George Bush, so all they have to offer is last minute, desperate distortions. Hardworking families don't need more Washington-style political attacks, they need a President who will create jobs and stand up for the middle class - and that's Barack Obama."

According to the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training, the coal industry provides about 40,000 direct jobs in the state, including those for miners, mine contractors, coal preparation plant employees and mine supply company workers.

West Virginia is the second largest coal-producing state in the country behind Wyoming and accounts for about 15 percent of all coal production in the United States. The Mountain State leads the nation in underground coal production and leads the nation in coal exports with over 50 million tons shipped to 23 countries. West Virginia accounts for about half of U.S. coal exports.

In addition, the coal industry pays about $70 million in property taxes in the state annually, and the Coal Severance Tax adds about $214 million into West Virginia's economy. The coal industry payroll in the state is nearly $2 billion per year, and coal is responsible for more than $3.5 billion annually in the gross state product.

"The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster," Obama said in the San Francisco Chronicle interview. "What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as an ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it."

The senior vice president of the West Virginia Coal Association called Obama's comments "unbelievable."

"His comments are unfortunate," Chris Hamilton said Sunday, "and really reflect a very uninformed voice and perspective to coal specifically and energy generally."

Hamilton noted other times Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden have made seemingly anti-coal statements.

"In Ohio recently, when Joe Biden said 'not here' about building coal-fired power plants -- this is exactly what will happen," Hamilton said. "Financing won't be directed here. It will all go aboard for plants elsewhere in the world. The United Sates is importing more coal today from Indonesia, South Africa and Colombia than we ever have.

"If we're going to create a situation where coal-fired power plants are at that much of a disadvantage, there will be new ones built. But as Biden said, just not here."

Republican presidential candidate John McCain's state director said Obama's statements are troubling, especially for West Virginians.

"I think this clearly shows the attitude the Obama-Biden ticket has toward coal," Ben Beakes said Sunday. "Rhetoric is cheap, but behind closed doors what they tell their supporters - that's what we have to take as gospel.

"They're definitely not friends of coal."

Beakes noted other examples of Obama and Biden making seemingly anti-coal statements, such as in February when Obama said he'd like to tax "dirty energy" such as coal and natural gas.

"And their cohorts in Congress make similar statements," Beakes said. "(Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid (D-Nevada) said this summer that 'coal makes us sick.'

"This is an attitude and view that, to me, shows their hatred of coal. And therefore, their view would cost West Virginians thousands upon thousands of jobs."

Beakes touted McCain's view toward coal.

"John McCain has embraced coal," Beakes said. "He doesn't agree with everything in the coal industry, but his view of coal is positive. He will make it part of his energy policy. He's met with leaders in the coal industry and let them know that. He's sought advice from coal industry leaders.

"McCain understands that coal supports about 49 percent of our electricity in this country. He'll continue to make coal important. He wants to reduce our foreign dependency on oil."

Hamilton also said the Obama campaign needs to find varied sources for coal and energy advice.

"If they're victorious Tuesday, they'd better go to someone other than Al Gore on energy and environmental matters," he said. "They've tipped the balance way -- unnecessarily so -- toward protecting the environment."

  • Clean coal technology is necessary for our future

I don't see why this is a surprise to anybody. Coal, as it is currently being used, is destroying our environment. If coal is to continue being America's primary source of electricity, we're going to have to start actually implementing clean coal technology rather than just talking about it. The only way to incentivize power companies to start really working towards developing this technology is to make it economically unsustainable for them to continue building traditional, dirty coal fired power plants. Coal company executives who deny the impact of coal brining power plants on climate change reminds me of tobacco company executives who argued that cigarettes don't cause lung cancer. It is a specious argument that has no basis in science. It is in the interest of everyone who works in the Coal Industry in America to support energy policies that will force power companies to stop simply talking about clean coal technology and instead finally make this vital technology a reality.

  • One of Obama's other statements omitted here.

I am appalled by these Obama statements. He almost had my vote. I grew up in West Virginia, and I often watched my father put on his helmet and sometimes, in the early years of coal, his carbide light. Every day, he headed off to a dark, tight hole in the side of a mountain to mine coal. Only after I left home did I understand the sacrifice my father and other coal miners made for their families and our nation. Coal miners are courageous and hard-working, and they deserve respect for their part in our national energy provision. Just as surely as the troops in Iraq, they make sacrifices for our nation by showing up for work every day. That said, one other Obama statement was not reported in this article. He also said that because of his proposed environmental regulations, "electricity would necessarily SKYROCKET." How can West Virginians, Pennsylvanians, and Ohioans consider voting for such a promise from a presidential candidate? In short, Obama has promised bankruptcy of coal companies, a massive and devastating loss of jobs, AND skyrocketing energy costs! People, this is serious. It will devastate our teetering economy. Let's vote for our future, and for our family, friends, and fellow patriots in the coal states. We've already lost enough through self-serving politicians. Refuse to fall for the liberal media bias and stop giving this slick politician a pass. Vote McCain-Palin to ensure that the coal industry has a chance to progress as a national energy source. Give our nation time to clean up coal production before it meets its sure demise under an Obama regime. Obama has already declared publicly that "when" he is president he will do what he wants to do. Sadly, we can believe he will do that, as he will likely be unopposed in a Democrat-controlled government in Washington. Coal is important to our independence from foreign energy. Obama just doesn't get it.

Let's take a poll in West Virginia! I don't think they want to do that today. Obama has plans to wreak havoc on this nation in the name of redistribution, new energy and it's exhorbitant cost. The cost in American jobs and lives would/could be devastating, particularly in places like WVA, OH, and PA. Hopefully these people will realize what could happen to them from liberals in Washington seeking to save a world that is not environmentally in trouble. They listen to Al Gore and the alarmist too much and ignore scientific evidence that proves the earth is cooling not warming.

Despite the fact that both candidates support clean coal technology, the McCain campaign tried to make the case that Barack Obama wanted to take away jobs from coal country in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and both Drudge and FOX were happy to oblige. But just three years ago on the floor of the United States Senate, John McCain's Republican colleague George Voinovich of Ohio took to the floor to argue against a proposal by McCain to curb greenhouse gas emissions. McCain's proposal, Voinovich said, would "put coal out of business" and cost thousands of jobs, an argument that McCain did not contest. In fact, McCain agreed that his plan would require sacrifice, but he also argued that in the long-run, America would be better off. In other words, he made the exact same arguments as Barack Obama.

The requirement proposed by McCain and Obama does two things good: Produce new jobs related to cleaning coal; and keep the environment safe while still making coal acceptable form of energy. What the McCain camp is not giving you from the original tape: Obama: "But this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon." Obama and Biden on Clean Coal: Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology. Carbon capture and storage technologies hold enormous potential to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as we power our economy with domestically produced and secure energy. As a U.S. Senator, Obama has worked tirelessly to ensure that clean coal technology becomes commercialized. An Obama administration will provide incentives to accelerate private sector investment in commercial scale zero-carbon coal facilities. In order to maximize the speed with which we advance this critical technology, Barack Obama and Joe Biden will instruct DOE to enter into public private partnerships to develop 5 "first-of-a-kind" commercial scale coal-fired plants with carbon capture and sequestration. Obama Passed An Amendment Supported by Biden To Add $200M For Carbon Capture And Sequestration Technology In Senate's FY 2008 Budget. Obama was the chief sponsor of an amendment to the 2008 Senate Budget resolution that added $200 million for Function 270 (Energy) for the demonstration and monitoring of carbon capture and sequestration technology by the Department of Energy. [SA 599 to SCR 21, Agreed to by Unanimous Consent, 3/23/07] Biden Proposed Energy Plan That Would Invest In Technologies To Use Coal More Cleanly. But oddly – Minwalla is also registered to vote in New York AND Nevada. All three registrations are listed as active. So, is she a resident of North Carolina, Nevada or New York? Technically, it appears she could vote in all three. Minwalla’s online bio for NextGenNow says she is currently pursuing a degree in English and Journalism in New York City. As recently as July, Minwalla wrote a review for a band in Brooklyn, but now she’s registered to vote in swing state North Carolina. The latest RealClearPolitics poll shows Obama ahead by 0.3 percent, in New York Obama leads by 29.7 percent. As I’ve heard so often from campaigners, every vote counts.

  • Obama v. Coal

It should not surprise anyone that Obama, talking privately to his leftist buddies in San Francisco, would promise to abolish coal as an energy source in the United States by "carbon taxing" it out of existance. Thanks to the West Virginia Record and Chris Dickerson, Obama has been caught in another stab in the back to the American people and the coal industry.

Chris Dickerson wrote: West Virginia is the second largest coal-producing state in the country behind Wyoming and accounts for about 15 percent of all coal production in the United States. The Mountain State leads the nation in underground coal production and leads the nation in coal exports with over 50 million tons shipped to 23 countries. West Virginia accounts for about half of U.S. coal exports. This varies with KET data(link below): Montana produces 120 billion tons, while W. Virginia's is 37 billion tons; Wyoming's is 68 billion tons. http://www.ket.org/Trips/Coal/AGSMM/agsmmwhere.html

Thanks for the balanced article. I hope readers take your words to heart, thoroughly read the article and understand how voting for Obama could have irreversable consequences for the W.VA coal industry. Can you imagine the area without coal to support the many families? Obama is prepared to shut it down. I hardly believe Obama's 'redistribution of the wealth' can adequately cover the losses of Americans who will be hurt by his decisions. He's untested, has radical views, we don't know enough about his ideas (there's a reason behind his record of voting 'present' instead of 'yea or nay' in the Senate), and there's a chance he might be elected president. Please be sure to vote. Vote for what is best for your area and what is best for this country - vote for the man who's proven himself in the Senate and during his service to this country. Vote for McCain - who would never consider decisions that would knowingly 'bankrupt' certain industries.

This really burns me up. Why is it that we're just now hearing about this on the eve of the election when it was said nearly 10 months ago. These radical views have a direct impact on every coal producing state and will destroy the industry. It will also impose huge costs on consumers in the form of passs through taxes and higher energy prices. The media has failed to inform the republic on this and other issues.

  • People, get a clue!

I seriously get why we as a nation are so behind. Nobody is able to critically think anymore, and everybody jumps to conclusions when something is said. We are the champions of taking things out of context. I have the sense to realize that Obama isn't going to shut off the coal plants and close down the coal mines on 1/20/09. The point is that coal IS a dirty fuel. Is it one of our necessities now? Sure. But that doesn't mean we need to keep using it. If coal is the end-all/be-all, then great, develop technology that can burn it and sequester all the nasty emmissions. In the mean time, make those who burn it pay the price for R&D (via cap and trade moneys) for better technologies. So some people in VA loose their industry. Guess what, times change. Sounds like maybe VA needs to get some people doing R&D on better technologies. It's really a shame that we haven't already developped renewable, environmentally friendly products. Nukes aren't the answer either. It's right in our face. Solar and wind. It's here, it's abundant, it doesn't pollute. Why doesn't every house in the US have a solar panel on the roof and a wind generator in the back yard? Guess what, no more need for those huge electrical bills. Why aren't we driving cars like the Chevy Volt already? Why aren't we holding car manufacturers to higher standards. If we all bought fuel efficient vehicles 10 years ago (or even 2 years ago) and shunned the guzzlers, those would be long gone by now. The problem is, not everybody is a team player. We all want someone else to make the effort, then we want to reap the reward. I bought a CNG vehicle and am paying $1.17/gallon for my gas. I will buy a Volt when they ship and further reduce my carbon footprint. We are currently installing our 2nd bank of solar cells on our house. This bank will reduce our electic usage to around $200 per year. Sure, I'm paying the extra out for the solar system, but guess what, its mine in a few years, then I'll install my 3rd bank of panels and be electric self-sufficient.

  • Democrat attempts to destroy coal industry not new

America has the largest reserves of coal in the world; and, a full 50% of our domestic electrical energy generation is dependent on this resource; and yet, LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS, now led by Obama, continuously attempt to restrict the use of these coal reserves; and, to impede attempts to develop technologies/facilities for the liquefaction of coal. Bill Clinton struck a major blow to America's accessible coal reserves when he unilaterally, over the objection of State officials, placed the Red Hills of Utah with an estimated Four(4) Trillion $s worth of high quality coal assets off-limits. Fearful of mass protests, Clinton wouldn't even go to Utah to announce his heinous restriction; but, rather chose to make his proclamation from the relative security of Arizona. Clinton's actions represented a major financial windfall for his Riady Bros. bankrollers who were in competition with Utah to sell their Indonesian coal holdings to the CHICOM. Ever wonder why Clinton refuses to release the Donor list for his "Foundation"! Greg Neubeck

  • To Barack H. Obama,

To Barack Hussein Obama, The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008, that proved You had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you previously admitted. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it. The Chicago Sun reported on May 8, 2008, that FBI records showed that you had a significantly closer relationship with Tony Rezko than what you previously admitted. In the interview, you said that you only saw Mr. Rezko a couple of times a year. The FBI files showed that you saw him weekly. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it. Your speech in Philadelphia on March 18, 2008, about "Race" contradicted your statement to Anderson Cooper on March 14 when you said that you never heard Reverend Wright make his negative statements about white America. While your attendance at Trinity Church for 20 years is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on March 14. In your 1st debate with John McCain, you said that you never said that you would meet with the leaders of Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea without "preparations" at lower levels ... Joe Biden repeated your words in his debate with Sarah Palin ... while the video tape from your debate last February clearly shows that you answered "I would" to the question of meeting with those leaders within 12 months without "any" preconditions. While your judgment about meeting with enemies of the USA without pre-conditions is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America in the debate with McCain. On July 14, 2008, you said that you always knew that the surge would work while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you stated that the surge would not work. While your judgment about military strategy as a potential commander-in-chief is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on July 14. You now claim that your reason for voting against funding for the troops was because the bill did not include a time line for withdrawal, while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you voted against additional funding because you wanted our troops to be removed immediately ... not in 16 months after the 2008 election as you now claim. While your judgment about removing our troops unilaterally in 2007 is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about your previous position. You claim to have a record of working with Republicans while the record shows that the only bill that you sponsored with a Republican was with Chuck Lugar ... and it failed. The record shows that you vote 97% in concert with the Democrat party and that you have the most liberal voting record in the Senate. You joined Republicans only 13% of the time in your votes and those 13% were only after agreement from the Democrat party. While it is of concern that you fail to include conservatives in your actions and that you are such a liberal, the greater concern is that you distorted the truth. In the primary debates of last February, 2008, you claimed to have talked with a "Captain" of a platoon in Afghanistan "the other day" when in fact you had a discussion in 2003 with a Lieutenant who had just been deployed to Afghanistan. You lied in that debate. In your debates last spring, you claimed to have been a "professor of Constitutional law" when in fact you have never been a professor of Constitutional law. In this last debate, you were careful to say that you "taught a law class" and never mentioned being a "professor of Constitutional law." You lied last spring. You and Joe Biden both claimed that John McCain voted against additional funding for our troops when the actual records show the opposite. You distorted the truth. You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted against funding for alternate energy sources 20 times when the record shows that John McCain specifically voted against funding for bio fuels, especially corn ... and he was right.... corn is too expensive at producing ethanol, and using corn to make ethanol increased the price of corn from $2 a bushel to $6 a bushel for food. You distorted the truth. You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted like both of you for a tax increase on those making as little as $42,000 per year while the voting record clearly shows that John McCain did not vote as you and Joe Biden. You lied to America. You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time when you know that Democrats also voted 90% of the time with the President (including Joe Biden) because the vast majority of the votes are procedural, You are one of the few who has not voted 90% of the time with the president because you have been missing from the Senate since the day you were elected. While your absence from your job in the Senate is of concern, the greater concern is that you spin the facts. You did not take an active role in the rescue plan. You claimed that the Senate did not need you while the real reason that you abstained was because of your close relationships with the executives of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Countrywide, and Acorn ... who all helped cause the financial problems of today ... and they all made major contributions to your campaign. While your relationship with these executives and your protection of them for your brief 3 years in the Senate is of concern, the greater concern is that you are being deceitful. You forgot to mention that you personally represented Tony Rezko and Acorn. Tony Rezko, an Arab and close friend to you, was convicted of fraud in Chicago real estate transactions that bilked millions of tax dollars from the Illinois government for renovation projects that you sponsored as a state senator... Acorn has been convicted of voter fraud, real estate subprime loan intimidation, and illegal campaign contributions. Tony Rezko has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to your political campaigns. You personally used your political positions to steer money to both Tony Rezko and Acorn and you used Acorn to register thousands of phony voters for Democrats and you, While your relationships with Rezko and Acorn are of concern, the greater concern is that you omitted important facts about your relationships with them to America. During your campaign, you said: "typical white person." "They cling to their guns and religion." "They will say that I am black." You played the race card. You tried to label any criticism about you as racist. You divide America. You claim that you will reduce taxes for 95% of America, but you forgot to tell America that those reductions are after you remove the current tax reductions. You have requested close to $1 billion in earmarks and several million for Acorn. Your social programs will cost America $1 trillion per year and you claim that a reduction in military spending ($100 billion for Iraq) can pay for it. While your economic plan of adding 30% to the size of our federal government is of concern, the greater concern is that you are deceiving America. The drain to America's economy by foreign supplied oil is $700 billion per year (5% of GDP) while the war in Iraq is $100 billion (less than 1% of GDP). You voted against any increases to oil exploration for the last 3 years and any expansion of nuclear facilities. Yet today, you say that you have always been for more oil and more nuclear. You are lying to America. Mr. Obama, you claimed that you "changed" your mind about public financing for your campaign because of the money spent by Republican PACs in 2004. The truth is that the Democrat PACs in 2004, 2006, and 2008 spent twice as much as the Republican PACs (especially George Soros and MoveOn.org). You are lying to America. Oh, Mr. Obama, Teddy Roosevelt said about a hundred years ago that we Americans should first look at the character of our leaders before anything else. Your character looks horrible. While you make good speeches, motivating speeches, your character does not match your rhetoric. You talk the talk, but do not walk the walk. 1. You lied to America. You lied many times. You distorted facts. You parsed your answers like a lawyer. 2. You distorted the record of John McCain in your words and in your advertisements. 3. You had associations with some very bad people for your personal political gains and then lied about those associations. 4. You divide America about race and about class. Now let me compare your record of lies, distortions, race baiting, and associations to John McCain: 1. War hero. 2. Annapolis graduate with "Country first." 3. Operational leadership experience like all 43 previously elected presidents of the USA as a Navy officer for 22 years. 4. 26 years in the Senate. 5. Straight talk. 6. Maverick. 7. 54% of the time participated on bills with Democrats. 8. Never asked for an earmark. The only blemish you got on his record is his part in the Keating 5 debacle about 25 years ago. Mr. Obama, at Harvard Law School, you learned that the end does not justify the means. You learned that perjuries, false witness, dishonesty, distortion of truth are never tolerated. Yet, your dishonesty is overwhelming. Your dishonesty is tremendously greater than the dishonesty that caused the impeachment and disbarment of Bill Clinton. You should be ashamed! Mr. Obama! It is time for us Americans to put aside our differences on political issues and vote against you because of your dishonest character. It is time for all of us Americans to put aside our political issues and vote for America first. It is time for America to vote for honesty. Any people who vote for you after understanding that you are dishonest should be ashamed of themselves for making their personal political issues more important than character. Would these same people vote for the anti-Christ if the anti-Christ promised them riches? Would they make a golden calf while Moses was up the mountain? Would they hire someone for a job if that someone lied in an interview? Of course not! So why should people justify their votes for you even though they know you are dishonest? Why should people excuse your dishonesty? Because some of these people are frightened about the future, the economy, and their financial security... and you are preying on their fears with empty promises ... and because some (especially our young people) are consumed by your wonderful style and promises for "change" Like the Germans who voted for Adolf Hitler in 1932. The greed/envy by Germans in 1932 kept them from recognizing Hitler for who he was. They loved his style. Greed and envy are keeping many Americans from recognizing you ... your style have camouflaged your dishonesty... but many of us see you for who you really are ... and we will not stop exposing who you are every day, forever if it is necessary. Mr. Obama, you are dishonest. Anyone who votes for you is enabling dishonesty. Mr. Obama, America cannot trust that you will put America first in your decisions about the future. Mr. Obama, you are not the "change" that America deserves. We cannot trust you. Mr. Obama, You are not ready and not fit to be commander-in-chief. Mr. Obama, John McCain does not have as much money as your campaign to refute all of your false statements. And for the mainstream media will not give adequate coverage or research about your lies, distortions, word parsing, bad associations, race baiting, lack of operational leadership experience, and generally dishonest character, The media is diverting our attention from your relationships and ignoring the fact that you lied about those relationships. The fact that you lied is much more important than the relationships themselves.... just like with Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon ... Monica Lewinski and Watergate were not nearly as bad as the fact that those men lied about the events ... false witness ... perjury ... your relationships and bad judgments are bad on their own .... But your lies are even worse. Therefore, by copy of this memo, all who read this memo are asked to send it to everyone else in America before it is too late. We need to do the job that the media will not do. We need to expose your dishonesty so that every person in America understands who you really are before Election Day. Mr. Obama, in a democracy, we get what we deserve. In addition, God help America if we deserve you.

  • McCain/Palin at it Again

The McCain camp is misrepresenting Obama's coal comments. In fact, McCain and Obama hold the same position on coal. In 2007, Biden proposed an energy plan, "Joe Biden supports more than $50 billion in new incentives for research into: alternative fuel and energy sources, renewable energy technology, nuclear waste management and safety, and carbon capture and sequestration technologies that could allow us to use coal cleanly." Yes coal is dirty and needs to be cleaned up BUT also, our reliance on foreign oil is even worse. A knee jerk response to the United States most abundant domestic energy resource should not be this ill-considered. We have an economic and security issue with importing energy from the Middle East but Obama's answer to that is to shut down the energy source we do have and tell you to not use energy. I see absolutely no solution to any energy problem here - just a way to make it worse. Obama is all answers to all people to get a vote but he will be a disaster finding answers as opposed to problems.
