Ohio man sues Oakwood Terrace Apartments, unknown man for gun shot

CHARLESTON -- A Proctorville, Ohio, man is suing Oakwood Terrace Apartments and an unknown man after he was shot and wounded.
On Aug. 9, 2008, Travis J. Keaton was visiting a friend who lived at Oakwood Terrace Apartments when he was shot by an unknown male assailant with a gun, according to a complaint filed Aug. 9 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Keaton claims the Charleston Police Department investigated the shooting and recovered the gun used by John Doe, but have not identified the unknown man or made any arrests.
Oakwood had a legal duty to its residents and visitors to ensure that the premises of the apartment complex was safe and secure, according to the suit, but failed to do so by allowing Keaton to be shot.
Keaton is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by William C. Forbes.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
