CHARLESTON – A Ripley woman and her husband are suing Charleston Area Medical Center and Abell Elevator Service Company after her hand was crushed in an elevator door.
On July 1, 2010, Emily Lamb was at Charleston Area Medical Center when an elevator door closed on her left hand, causing injuries, according to a complaint filed May 2 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Lamb claims CAMC had no signs or other warnings to advise her or others of the dangerous and hazardous condition of the elevator.
CAMC failed to ensure that the elevators on its premises were functioning properly and free of dangers and hazards, according to the suit.
Lamb claims Abell Elevator Service Company failed to keep its elevators properly maintained and failed to identify and repair hazards and unsafe conditions.
The defendants' negligence, carelessness and recklessness caused Lamb's injuries to her hand, according to the suit.
Lamb and her husband, George Lamb, are seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. They are being represented by Brent K. Kesner, Sara A. Jones, Kevin C. Harris and Eric J. Holmes.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
