Man blames nursing home for mother's death

WINFIELD -- A man is suing Genesis Healthcare Corporation and Teays Valley Center after he claims they are responsible for his mother's wrongful death.

Annie Peters was a nursing home resident of the defendants' from July 28, 2008, until Aug. 22, 2010, and from Sept. 1, 2010, until Oct. 26, 2010, according to a complaint filed Sept. 26 in Putnam Circuit Court.

William J. Peters claims during his mother's residency, she was subjected to injuries from a pattern of poor care, neglect and abuse.

Annie Peters sustained multiple injuries during her stay, including a fractured left hip, falls, a urinary tract infection and skin breakdown, according to the suit.

William J. Peters claims as a result of the defendants' negligence, his mother sustained pain and suffering; loss of enjoyment of life; aggravation of existing diseases and physical defects; and incurred medical expenses.

The defendants were also responsible for Annie Peters' wrongful death, according to the suit.

William J. Peters is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by Andrew L. Paternostro and Jeff D. Stewart.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Phillip Stowers.
