Majestro
CHARLESTON -- The West Virginia Association for Justice named Charleston attorney Anthony Majestro the organization's 2012 Stanley E. Preiser Member of the Year at its annual convention earlier this month.
Majestro is the managing partner with the Charleston law firm of Powell and Majestro. He is WVAJ's current vice president.
"There is a reason that Tony is hired to litigate landmark cases such as those involving federal and state redistricting and campaign finance disclosure laws," said Paul T. Farrell Jr., immediate past president of the association. "There is also a reason that the West Virginia Legislature asks for his input on the constitutionality and function of new laws. Tony Majestro is one of the brightest, hardest working and brutally honest attorneys in the State of West Virginia. We are lucky to have his as a member of our organization."
Majestro said he was humbled.
"It is a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues for my work on behalf of the association, its members, our clients and West Virginia's court system," he said. "It is also a tremendous privilege to receive an award that bears the name of one of WVAJ's founding members, Stanley Preiser.
"Stanley was both a state and national leader as a trial lawyer who sought to ensure that every citizen has a voice in our courtrooms that is equal to the most powerful corporate and political interests.
"As a plaintiffs' attorney, I am honored to continue the work that Stanley started here and be recognized for it by my peers."
Majestro graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University in 1986 with a B. S. in Economics. While at WVU, he was awarded the Harry S. Truman Scholarship. He earned his J. D. in 1989 from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served on the editorial board of the Georgetown Law Journal as senior notes and comments editor.
Following law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas A. Clark of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He practiced for five years with a large defense firm in Charleston in the civil litigation department before moving to a firm concentrating on the representation of personal injury plaintiffs. In 2002, he and law partner J. C. Powell established Powell and Majestro.
"WVAJ is committed to preserving and improving our civil justice system so that any person injured through the misconduct of others can seek justice in our courtrooms," Majestro said. "I am happy to help the Association further this important mission."
The West Virginia Association for Justice represents more than 500 plaintiffs attorneys throughout West Virginia and in surrounding states.
